You may already be aware that rail union RMT has announced industrial action between 2 December 2019 and 2 January 2020.
This will affect SW Railway services, although the company states that they “expect to run more than half of our normal Monday to Friday services, prioritising capacity during peak periods, with the same level of peak services as in previous strikes.”
You can find out more at the SW Railway website, sign up for email alerts and check the routes affected and the weekday timetable. They also have an FAQ page.
If you’re likely to be affected by the industrial action, please discuss this with your manager as soon as possible. We’re speaking to senior managers separately to ask them to facilitate flexible working for affected employees wherever possible and to ensure there is a minimum of disruption to our services. This could include:
- Working from home or from an alternative location
- Working flexibly such as travelling at different times of the day to avoid peak periods or to fit around revised train times.
If you're thinking about travelling by car instead, bear in mind that there are some major roadworks on key routes into the city. These form part of our plans to upgrade the transport infrastructure of the city. You can find details of roadworks, diversions and road closures at https://one.network/custom/southampton.
If you need information about other sustainable travel options including cycle routes, then go to MyJourney Southampton.
We will keep you updated if the situation changes significantly.
