Art Asia and John Hansard Gallery Present

International Women's Day / Saturday 9 March

Showcasing local women artists, in partnership with Art Asia, to mark International Women’s Day 2019.

The day will include a performance by dancer and artist Vidya Thirunarayan and Pooja Angra, as well as Art Asia Bollywood dance and singing group, conversations led by Dr Nazneen Ahmed, and a lantern making workshop in their Active Space.

The Lordswood Residents and Community Association

Southampton Crematorium donates £7,000 to charity

Southampton Crematorium, which is run by Southampton City Council, donated £7,000 to HASAG Asbestos Disease Support.

Southampton Crematorium has raised this money from their Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) recycling of metals scheme.

This brings the total that Southampton Crematorium has donated to charities over the past 12 months to £17,000.

Hear about the benefits of healthy Chakras, from visionary artists and Reiki Masters, Natalie and Gil Dekel.

The art was created using Encaustic Wax and digital techniques.

The Avenue Multicultural Centre

Drop-in support for asylum seekers and refugees

Fridays 10am to 2pm / Avenue St Andrew’s Church, The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XQ

The Avenue Multicultural Centre is a partnership between the British Red Cross, CLEAR project, Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group and Avenue St Andrew’s United Reformed Church. It is a drop-in centre which gives a warm welcome to all asylum seekers and refugees.

The centre offers a range of professional advice and practical assistance particularly focussed on the needs of asylum seekers. It gives users access to sporting and recreational activities and offers a community café that is just the place to meet, find a friendly face and a cup of tea.

There is access to free food bags and a monthly clothing stall, as well as offering limited financial help for those who are destitute.

You will have access to confidential advice from Red Cross caseworkers and CLEAR advisors who can refer you to the SWVG befriending service.
