Recycling header plastic

Bank holiday collections

There will be no bin collections on Monday 28 May, so all collections will be a day later than usual, including a catch up collection on Saturday 2 June. Make sure you never miss a collection by using the iCal reminder when you download your collection calendar

Recycling textiles

Shed those layers

Goodbye to big coats, winter woolies and thick socks.  Even if they are well worn you can drop them off at one of the many textile banks around the city and help raise funds for local and other charities. You can also donate sheets, pillowcases and towels.

Recycling glass bottles

Keep on the glass!

All glass bottles and jars can be recycled in either the glass box or communal glass bin or bank.  Please don't put them in the blue lidded recycling bins as this can cause problems for the machinery at the recycling centre.

If you have had a bit of a do and you have more bottles than will fit in your box, you can put them in a sturdy container and we will take them on your next glass collection day.

Recycling Banks

Salad days

The good weather often means barbeques and picnics and eating more salad and soft fruits.  You can now recycle punnets, meat trays, coleslaw tubs, cream pots and butter tubs in the plastics banks located at 8 sites around the city. Please rinse off any food to reduce odours and prevent attracting flies and other pests

Recycled furniture

Too good to waste

Go bananas

If your banana are past their best, peel and slice them and put them in a bag in the freezer for a few hours. When they are frozen blend until creamy, and you will have a delicious dairy free alternative to ice cream.  Add your own extra flavours such as a spoonful of peanut butter or nutella.

Soft fruit lollies

Make delicious lollies from left over strawberries and other soft fruits by mixing with yougurt and freezing in lolly moulds. Add small pieces of biscuit or meringue for a bit of crunch.

Limp lettuce?

Limp Cos type lettuce can be revived by cutting away some of the bottom stalk and standing in a small amount of water, a bit like a bunch of flowers. After a few hours the leaves will have perked up and will be good for your salad.
