Get Together for Health and Wellbeing

Thursday 12 April / 11am-6pm / Solent Showcase Gallery, Southampton Guildhall Square, next to Artisan Cafe

Drop in during the day, with group activities at 1pm and 4pm:

  • Throughout the day help to create a large scale collaborative artwork showing How We Make a Healthy Southampton
  • 1pm Knit One Change One – join the knitting circle (all welcome including non-knitters) and discuss together how wool crafts can improve health, and have a go on a spinning wheel;
  • 4pm Gather Together to celebrate the day, listen to some short talks on health and community, and join in with a Singing for Wellbeing session with choir leader Maggie O’Connor.

Ther will be a display of health-themed artwork by young people,  exploring questions about their health needs in an ever changing world.

Monthly Conservation Days

Mother Nature constantly needs a helping hand – why not come down and get your hands dirty while helping to protect our nation’s beautiful wildlife? The Sholing Valleys study centre run sessions on the last Sunday of the month (with the exception of August and December) from 10am - 3pm.

Naturewatch Club

The Naturewatch club for children aged 7-12 also takes place on the last Sunday of the month (with the exception of August and December). It runs from 10.30am-12.30pm and membership for the whole year costs just £6. Better still, the first session is free so there’s nothing to lose in coming along!

Naturewatch sessions encourage children’s passion for nature through fun educational activities while helping to raise awareness about the natural world.

Activities include:

  • Nature walks
  • Plant, animal and fungi identification
  • Pond dipping
  • Seasonal arts and craft sessions

Southampton Crematorium donates £5,000 to child bereavement charity 4Louis

Southampton Crematorium have donated £5,000 to 4Louis, a charity which supports families who suffer a stillbirth or neonatal death. Southampton Crematorium have raised this money from their Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) recycling of metals scheme.

A journey from London to the Dolphin Hotel in Southampton in 1648 is the earliest written record of a stagecoach journey in England...and so begins the story of the coaches, coachbuilders, the coachmen, the Inns, the routes and the horses in this 50 minute talk on Southampton's Coaching days.

The speaker, Godfrey Collyer, is a tour giude with See Southampton and a regular contributor of heritage articles for the Daily Echo.
