January Highlights...

Vivaldi's Gloria

Over 160 vocalists from various secondary schools, colleges and community choirs joined together on 18th January to take part in Southampton Music Hub’s Vivaldi Big Sing Project.

The project was devised in conjunction with Richard Taunton Sixth Form College as a means for secondary school pupils to access high quality free singing workshops from Southampton Music Hub and participate in a very large scale event with a massed choir and orchestra.

The performance included students from Bitterne Park Secondary School, St Anne’s Catholic School, St George Catholic College, Upper Shirley High and Richard Tauntons Sixth Form College. Alongside the students several community choirs took part including Richard Taunton Sixth Form College Community Choir, Soton Voce and Central Hall Community Gospel Choir.

Special thanks to all those who have helped to make this project possible. Pictures from the event can be found here, reactions from TSTC vocalist can be seen here and a fantastic video piece from Solent News Now can be viewed below:

Young SMS string students take part in jazz workshop day

34 members of Acorn and Elgar strings had a fantastic day of performing some jazz music on Saturday 9 January under the leadership of Dan Mar Molinero. Dan had the children singing, improvising and creating their own arrangements before performing to friends and family at the end of the day. The event was a great opportunity for the children to experience a different genre of music. Many thanks goes to Dan for a super day of music making.
