Work continues on Solihull Council’s major transport infrastructure project, the Lode Lane Enhancement Scheme. The scheme is progressing well, with work on schedule to be completed by the end of summer 2016. The works comprise amendments to Lode Lane from Dovehouse Lane to Warwick Road to establish a bus lane and shared use footway/cycleway.
Solihull Council would like to thank motorists, bus users, pedestrians and residents for their continued patience as work on Lode Lane moves forward.
What's happening at the moment?
Segment D (Warwick Road cul-de-sac to Poplar Road)
All civil work in this area is now complete. The signalisation of the Warwick Road/Poplar Road junction has now been completed and the new traffic lights are now in operation. Certain activities still to be completed are the landscaping of the verge area and the re-positioning of some on-street signage.
Segment C (Solihull Bypass to Solihull Hospital)

The final service diversion in this segment was completed during the week commencing 29 February. Since then work has focussed on backfilling and excavating the new bus lane to the correct level. The week commencing 4 April saw the completion of the footway reconstructions, retaining wall and all civil works for the toucan crossing and splitter island installations. |
The carriageway re-construction commenced on Wednesday 30 March, and was completed during night closures by the morning of Friday 8 April, including all associated road marking and ironworks adjustments.
|
Solihull Hospital and all residents within the vicinity of the closure were notified by letter drops.
Topping out of the footways, and other minor works including site/compound de-mobilisation, are now occuring this week and it is expected that all work in this segment will be
completed by Monday 18 April.

Segment B (Rowood Drive to Solihull Bypass)
Works commenced in this section on Monday 21 March 2016 with the first week seeing the construction of a section of new footway at the junction with Hermitage Road.
The works have now turned to adjusting the footway kerb line between Boulton Road and Moat Lane which will be on-going for approximately 3 weeks.
As this section involves work across the existing controlled pedestrian crossing, the work was programmed to take advantage of the school Easter holidays to avoid inconvenience to pedestrians and school children.
Segment A (Dovehouse Lane to Rowood Drive)
The carriageway
re-surfacing and road marking between Rowood Drive and Lode Lane bridge was
successfully completed in the week commencing 7 March over a series of
night road closures.
Completion of the
re-surfacing and centre reservation modification remains on hold until structural works to the canal bridge are complete. This work is provisionally due to begin in mid-May, to be completed by the end of August 2016.
On 31 March the upgrade of the existing pelican crossing to a toucan crossing
adjacent Henley Crescent was completed and the temporary lights were
removed.
New signage directing to the Mill Pool Scout hut has been ordered and will be installed as soon as possible. Resurfacing of the Scout hut entrance
and footway on the western side of Lode Lane will also take place.
