Cllr Elise Wilson

Message from the Leader of the Council

2021 has been another challenging year but it has been heartening to see our communities continuing to support each other and looking after our most vulnerable residents. In true Stockport spirit, we all worked together as One Stockport and overcame the ups and downs of such an uncertain year. Thank you to everyone who has played their part and given up their time to make a huge difference to our residents.

What is clear is that Covid is still with us and something we must continue to take seriously. As we all know, the guidance from the government can change very quickly and if it does, the most up to date information can be found here.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a prosperous new year. Please stay safe and continue to look after yourself and each other over the festive period.

Cllr Elise Wilson, Leader of Stockport Council

Government guidance on coronavirus

The government guidance on coronavirus has changed in December. For the most up to date information on what you can and cannot do because of coronavirus, visit GOV.UK.

The best protection against coronavirus is getting vaccinated. If you're still not fully vaccinated or received your booster, book now on the NHS website

If you test positive for coronavirus, you must self-isolate. People who receive negative Lateral Flow results on day 6 and day 7 of their self-isolation period – with tests taken 24 hours apart – will no longer have to self-isolate for the full 10 days.

The first test must be taken no earlier than day 6 of the self-isolation period. Under 5s who test positive do not need to self-isolate but parents are advised to limit contact with anyone who is at risk of getting COVID-19 and follow the advice of their early years setting.

There is no change to the guidance for unvaccinated contacts of positive COVID-19 cases, who are still required to self-isolate for 10 full days after their date of exposure to the virus. Read more on these changes.
