Hi everyone
I hope you all get the chance to watch the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday (6 May) and join in the celebrations.
No doubt it will have all the pomp and ceremony we'd expect from royalty, with the King’s own take on what a modern coronation should look like.
Naturally, we’re doing our bit in Shropshire with 41 street parties lined up, plus people can watch the Coronation live-streamed on big screens at Shrewsbury Castle and Oswestry Cae Glas Park on Saturday 6 May and take part in the Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday 7 May. There’s also The Big Help Out starting on Monday 8 May which gives us all a chance to help our local communities.
Many of our services are still running of course and my thanks go to all those staff who continue to work for the benefit of our residents during this extra Bank Holiday.
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm sure we'll all enjoy witnessing history in the making.
Your views are going to be vitally important as new boundaries are being proposed for council electoral divisions in Shropshire Council.
The Local Government Boundary Commission wants to hear what residents and local organisations think about the proposals. A 10-week consultation on the proposals will run until 10 July 2023 so please let them know your thoughts.
The Commission is the independent body that draws these boundaries. It’s reviewing Shropshire to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, and that electoral division arrangements will help the council work effectively.
Whatever the outcome, it will have a significant impact on the way we work with our councillors in the future.
I’m looking forward to some great conversations with my team this week as I continue their Personal Development Planning (PDP). We will all be having these meetings and they are an opportunity for you to have a quality conversation with your manager, discuss your objectives and get help and support if you need it.
I’m sure these will lead to meaningful discussions which will be instrumental in helping the council to change, ensure we have the best workforce and be a healthy organisation. More than anything, I want everyone to feel clear on their objectives and how they meet The Shropshire Plan and that we are all motivated to achieve them.
This new approach to PDP for all colleagues will touch everyone working for Shropshire Council and help us to focus on how we can change and deliver the Shropshire Plan.
For those not on the first phase of the Getting Leadership Right programme there will be support available on how to have the conversations shortly. Information will be shared on the intranet in due course.
Due to the Coronation bank holiday on Monday (8 May) recycling and waste collections will be one day later than usual next week - with collections returning to normal on Monday 15 May. Don't forget to put your bins/boxes/bags out by 7am.
And if you're having a Coronation party this weekend don't forget to recycle any waste you generate.
