There is now a new EY funding application form for foster carers to complete in order to claim early years funding for children in their care. Once the form is complete, the foster carer needs to pass it on to their Social Worker for approval.
Approved applications are then submitted to the Early Years Funding Team (NEF) by the Social Worker, for processing and the production of an eligibility code.
Once an application has been processed by the Early Years Funding Team, the child will automatically be marked as eligible for EYPP, removing the need for settings to have to submit a separate form to claim the EYPP element.
More information is available on the Virtual School Website.

Opportunity to study via teams
Delivery and Statutory Off The Job Hours (OTJH) x 420 hrs over 18 months
Based on a minimum of 30hrs a week all year round. Anything less will require more OTJH to be facilitated by the employer and reflected on the “Individual Training Plan”. Any absences to planned OTJH will need to be facilitated by the employer at an alternative agreed time.
Option A
Our flagship model where all OTJH are planned by us as the training provider and is broken down into 366 OTJH in college on a Monday 9-4pm and 54 OTJH in the workplace. This fulfils the requirement of 420 OTJH over the 18 months. This full day also enables the apprentice to partake in all college enrichment opportunities including trips and guest speakers and receive face to face teaching and a Professional Development session with their assessor each week during term time.
Option B
A blended model of working, where the majority of OTJH are facilitated by the employer in the workplace with additional taught session via TEAMS alternate Mondays 2-6pm termtime only.
These hours will be made up of discussions, reflections, small breakout room tasks and setting some assessment tasks. In addition, assessor lead Professional Development sessions both via TEAMS and face to face in the workplace will be facilitated.
Total number of statutory OTJ hours for the duration (18mths) apprenticeship is 420 hrs
Total number of statutory OTJ hours facilitated by us as the training provider is 136 hrs
Total number of statutory OTJ hours facilitated by the employer is 284 hrs (55 of these have been scheduled by us as planned workplace learning tasks including induction.)
This leaves the employer a total of 229 OTJ hours to plan in advance of programme starting to ensure the full employer contribution of OTJ hours are accounted for and can be appropriately evidenced by the apprentice. This is approximately 3 OTJ hours each week
Consider CPD, staff meetings and any other times when you might be able to release your apprentice for them to study to complete assessment tasks.
We continue to pre assess prospective apprentices each month as a 2hr induction and assessment session including a full presentation of the role and responsibilities of an apprentice, an english and maths skills scan and a 1 to 1 interview. If suitable, we then work with the prospective apprentice and any settings recruiting staff, to best match them for an interview.
If you wish to discuss any of the above, or, indeed, wish to share any vacancies you might have, we can support you with recruitment. Please do not hesitate to contact sue.williams@telfordcollege.ac.uk
In preparation for the new academic year and updated version of Keeping children safe in education - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) coming into force at the beginning of September we have updated the Safeguarding and child protection policy templates. This information is for early years managers in Shropshire.
The DfE want to encourage users to complete the screener form to take part in the pilot.
They want to avoid, worrying you or implying that there are changes to the EYQL.

Hi,
The early years team at the Department for Education has asked us to contact you to ask if you can help with developing a new online service to check early years qualifications.
They recognise that checking an individual’s qualifications is an important part of hiring and staffing in settings, and they want to offer more support to early years managers who check qualifications as part of their role.
They are now looking for early years managers to try out a potential new online service and give their feedback.
About the service
The service we have built contains the same information as the existing early years qualifications list (EYQL) and can be used either instead of or alongside the existing spreadsheet. Any updates that DfE makes to the EYQL during the pilot phase will also be reflected in the pilot service.
You can read more about the work that has been done so far on the DfE website.
We plan to run a drop-in session where you can hear more about the service. You can register for this session by emailing general.EARLY-YEARS-QUALS@education.gov.uk.
If you would like to take part, please fill in this questionnaire: https://forms.office.com/e/1Wpwm1Ncks before Thursday 12 September 2024.
Best wishes, Alison Rae
