We would like to share with the business community a short film of the Accelerating Change Climate Conference for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin held on 18 May. The conference was attended by 130 delegates and organised by Zero Carbon Shropshire, South Shropshire Climate Action and Save Our Shropshire. Young people from the Environmental Leadership Programme (ELP2) and Marches Energy Agency were instrumental in organising and facilitating the conference, with the film produced by a young local film maker.
The conference identified the need for urgent action and challenges to get to Net Zero across Housing, Energy, Transport, Circular Economy, Land, Nature, Food and Farming. The aim now is to create a broader climate coalition and a funded programme of work for the next three years. The involvement of the business community is critical to providing personnel, skills and funding to the existing network of climate groups working in local communities and to enabling young people to get involved, to widen community reach, actions and impact.
Sascha Robinson (ELP2 member) stated the conference “was a great chance for us to feel heard and to express that we need to be on the forefront of change. Young people no longer want to be a tokenistic addition to climate action.”
