On the 10th May businesses and individuals will have the chance to discover how they could benefit from Shropshire’s UK Shared Prosperity Funding.
For the past year over £15m, secured by the UK Shared Prosperity team at Shropshire Council, has been actively supporting and making a difference to the lives of people and businesses across Shropshire.
The Shropshire Expo: Business Support, Skills & Championing Your Community, will take place at The Shrewsbury Football Club from 11.00am – 2.00pm on Friday 10 May. It includes an exhibition and presentations on the active projects across the County.
Gary Spence, Shropshire Council’s external funding and technical lead officer in the business growth and investment team, said:-
“The aim of the event is to get businesses, individuals, and community organisations together to network but also to find out what support is available to them from the numerous UKSPF projects we are currently funding.
There is a raft of business support programmes, but businesses will also discover how they can get involved in their local communities and offer support for those seeking employment.
For individuals, there is help around upskilling and how to find work. For community and voluntary organisations, the event offers a chance for promotion and engagement with local businesses.
Representatives from all the projects will be on hand to talk in person to visitors about their projects and guide them through the process of accessing the support. “

Businesses in Shropshire will soon share in the benefit from funding to help reduce their carbon footprint and move towards Net Zero.
£2.3m has recently been awarded to Worcestershire and The Marches from the pilot Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS). This additional funding will be administered by Worcestershire County Council, but is available across The Marches, including to businesses in Shropshire.
The programmes offer free energy assessments and grant funding to implement energy efficiency measures to small and medium businesses in the West Midlands. The pilot Business Energy Advice Service is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
In The Marches, UK Shared Prosperity Fund monies are individually managed by Shropshire Council, Herefordshire Council, and Telford and Wrekin Council. Worcestershire County Council is delivering the support programmes in partnership with the councils.

Community energy projects bring benefits to local groups across England by helping them to maximise the income-generating potential of renewable energy and put this income to work in their area. By increasing the uptake of locally owned renewable energy, these initiatives support the Government’s targets for reaching net zero.
Projects like these benefit the communities by promoting rural growth, creating new jobs and volunteering opportunities, and enabling communities to access the economic benefits associated with renewable energy schemes.
Through the Community Energy Fund, community groups can receive grants of up to £140,000 to support the initial but critical feasibility phases of a project. The funding is aimed at kickstarting community-owned clean energy projects by looking into the feasibility of small-scale wind farms, rooftop solar partnerships, battery storage, heat networks, and more. The funding will be used to investigate the technical and financial viability of a project and establishing detailed investigations, planning applications to produce a business case for capital investment.
