NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin have a Children and Young Person’s Mental Health Transformation Plan which aims to examine and plan for the future services needed across the local area. They are encouraging parent carers to look at the plan – as it needs the involvement and input from service users themselves and all service providers across the NHS, local authorities, voluntary sector. It is a long document but hopefully the table of contents will take you to the section you are especially interested in.
A dedicated email address has been set up for you to use for your comments and input.

PACC has been highlighting the need for a specific SEND Early Help offer in Shropshire for some time. Early Help is about providing early support, rather than waiting until a child or family’s situation hits crisis point. Early Help can be appropriate at any stage of a child’s or young person’s life.
Feedback received by PACC over the last couple of years has suggested that the current Early Help offer in Shropshire is not effectively responding to the needs of SEND families, therefore they welcomed the Early Help Review announced before Christmas.
PACC has provided input to the Review in two ways: before Christmas, Sarah and Zara met with the independent Review lead to share key relevant points shared with PACC in their recent ‘State of SEND – Shropshire Update 2022’ report linked to the delivery of Early Help.
They also carried out a more targeted survey during December and January asking parent carers to specifically tell them about their experience of Early Help in Shropshire. You can read the report here.

On Monday 16 January, partners and parent carers from across Shropshire met to discuss how to improve the co-production of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) services.
The room was packed with over fifty people including parent carers of children and young people with SEND, and those working in health, social care and education. Everyone came together for a workshop called ‘Embedding Co-production’. Conversations reflected on the importance of listening to children and young people who access services, as well as including their parents and carers. There were also discussions about the importance of the feedback loop to demonstrate that having your say makes a real difference. Everyone involved is committed to hearing more from children and young people with SEND and their parent carers and to co-produce services with them more often. To find out more about the event visit the PACC website.

We are inviting unpaid and family carers of all ages to take part in this consultation of the Shropshire All Age Carer strategy 2022-2027.
An unpaid and family carer is someone who, without pay, provides support to an individual who lives in Shropshire and may be ill, frail, with disabilities, have poor mental health or drug and alcohol problems, meaning they're unable to manage without this care and support.
Whether you are an adult supporting a friend or family member, a parent looking after a child who has additional needs, or a young person who spends a lot of time looking after members of your family please look at the draft strategy and tell us what you think.
The strategy contains seven priorities that we want to implement in Shropshire over the next 5 years to ensure unpaid and family carers, of all ages:
- Identify as a carer earlier and are offered appropriate information, advice and support and opportunities to share their views and help to shape local services.
- Remain emotionally and physically well.
- Are empowered to plan for their future and have access to support that allows them to fulfil their own educational and employment potential.
- Participate in family and community life that includes things that are of interest to them alongside their caring role.
The Shropshire All-Age Carer Strategy 2022-2027 has been produced by gathering the knowledge and views from organisations in health and social care, voluntary and community sector and, most importantly, from carers and former carers from across the County. It is vital that carers continue to be involved in informing the implementation of the strategy so that our priorities and actions reflect the lived experience of carers in Shropshire.
Find out more and have your say
Consultation ends 6 March 2023.
