Dysphagia Awareness with a Learning Disability Focus, via MS Teams on 22 June 2022, 10am-12pm

Aims to: Improve responses to the needs of adults with swallowing difficulties

Learning objectives:
• Understand what Dysphagia is and how it occurs
• Be aware of the signs and symptoms of Dysphagia
• Be aware of problems caused by Dysphagia
• Promote safer eating and drinking for individuals
• Explore the IDDSI Levels of texture and fluid modification (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative)
• Know when and how to refer for a swallowing assessment
• Understand the Speech and Language Therapist’s (SALT) role

Facilitator: Learning Disability Speech and Language Therapist

Audience: Individuals working with or supporting adults with a learning disability and older

Cost group: 

  • Group 1: £28.00 - Shropshire adult care and health services
  • Group 2: £41.00 - Other organisations - please see website for further details
  • Group 3: £0 – no charge, pre-funded by prior agreement – this includes unpaid volunteers living/volunteering with adults in Shropshire, Adult Service Users in Shropshire, Adult Family Carers, Shropshire Council Adult Services, Shropshire Council Housing, Shropshire Council Public Health, Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, Shropshire CCG staff including GP practices, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT Shropshire & T&W workbases only)
