Early Help Update October 2020

Welcome to the latest edition of the Early Help newsletter. In this edition you will find an update on the Early Help module, the latest newsletter looking at exploitation in Shropshire, and as more families are facing financial hardship information from the Shropshire Food Poverty Alliance. If you have information on your service area you would like to share in the next early help newsletter, please email Kate.Bentham@shropshire.gov.uk

The only number you need

Whether you think a child, young person or family needs some support, or you are worried a child might be at risk of abuse or neglect, there is only one number you need – 0345 678 9021. From this number you will receive the support you need to get the right help at the right time to strengthen families and safeguard children.

Early Help Module Update

This update is to provide all Early Help Partners with the current position related to progress made with implementing the Early Help Module case management system.

As you will appreciate, having to do implementation and migration remotely and virtually is challenging to say the least – but I can’t praise the Targeted Early Help Team enough in their attitude and determination in making it work.  Most of their cases have been migrated and staff are feeling much more confident using the system every day.

The next phase of implementation extends to getting partners on the system. We have spent time over the last month or so ensuring that the system access for external partners has been thoroughly tested.  Providing the assurance that once MeLearning has been completed, access is simple and easy. The Strengthening Families Team are available to provide support to partners and agencies in accessing the training and the Early Help Module, and you can contact them via email on ShropshireStrengtheningFamilies@shropshire.gov.uk or via phone on 01743 253921

We have 70 partners ready to get going. These partners understanding the benefits of joining a case management system that shares information with Children’s Social Care, ensuring that children and young people are protected and supported as early as possible.

I will share information about the revised Early Help strategy, developed by the range of Early Help partners, in the next early help newsletter. Partners were very clear that for the three years of the strategy, Neglect would be the number one focus. We want to build on the strengths of the whole family to ensure that children do not have live with neglect.

To ensure we can support you and your organisation - please ensure your organisation has signed the information sharing agreement  and as soon as you have completed the MeLearning – we will provide you with access.

Your support as always is much appreciated

Regards Fran

New Climb website and referral form

Climb, partnered with the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, is a unique programme providing positive activities to young people who may otherwise be drawn into criminal activity. They work with 10-17 year olds early on, before they get caught up in county lines or other forms of exploitation. Through sports and the arts, they give young people a chance to form healthy relationships, find out about their passions and be positive about the future. By offering diversionary activities, young people can choose to step away from a life of exploitation, before the threats and abuse get any worse. They are empowered to make positive choices to improve their lives.

Climb have recently launched a new website and updated their referral from.
