New adult education course at Shropshire Archives

House history

Tracing the history of a property and finding out about the people who lived there can be absolutely fascinating but is also likely to be time consuming and frustrating – for instance it is unusual to be able to date a house accurately.  It is like a good detective story and, in the same way, there may be a few dead ends along the way.

However, this six week course will give you the opportunity to find out what documents are available at Shropshire Archives to help you in your research. A number of the wonderful historic maps and other documents held at the archives will be used to illustrate aspects of research, so this is a fantastic opportunity to view these documents.

House history 2

This course will take place at Shropshire Archives and will look at some examples of research into the history of medieval, Victorian, and other period houses. There will be opportunities to look at many original documents including historic maps. You will also have support in undertaking the history of your own house using the resources available at Shropshire Archives.
