Sheffield City Council's first Annual Climate Progress Report will be considered by the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Change Committee on Monday 11 December. The report outlines the key achievements that have been made in Sheffield since March 2022 to reduce emissions, including Sheffield retaining its A- rating for 2023 from the Carbon Disclosure Project. The report also explains extent of the challenge ahead, in trying to achieve net zero by 2030.
Sheffield City Council and a wide range of partner land-owners and organisations have been working hard to reduce the risk of flooding in Sheffield during Sheffield's wettest October on record. Without the schemes we would have seen flooding to several hundred properties and major roads.
The first phase of works on Limb Brook Valley project is now complete. This collaborative project, with the Environment Agency and Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust, utilises natural flood management solutions which look to hold water upstream. See the scheme in action in Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust's video.
The Council's Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme supports low income and vulnerable households by providing energy upgrades to their homes and, six months after the launch of ECO4 Flex scheme, results are exceeding expectations.
29 properties have been given a range of upgrades including, first-time central heating, room-in-roof insulation, boiler upgrades, thermostatic radiator valves, programmers and thermostats, loft and internal wall insulation.
All 29 properties have significantly improved their energy efficiency ratings, with all going up at least two EPC bands and seven by three or four bands. This results in average annual savings for residents of £844.
The Council is expanding its network of public chargers in the city and has used government funding to install 11 charging points in residential areas. This is a pilot project, focusing on areas where on-street parking is common and where charging facilities have been requested. Six of the chargers are double headed charging points on streets spread across Sheffield, and the remaining charging points are in public residential car parks.
You can find out more about the scheme, which was approved by the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Committee in October 2023, on Sheffnews or let us know if you would like a chargepoint in your area.
