With heavy rain forecast over the next few days, the council is working with its partners to ensure the city is prepared.

Streets Ahead, the council’s highway contractor, is prioritising gully cleaning around known flooding hotspots and preparing its operatives to respond swiftly should localised flooding occur.

With rain expected to start this evening of Monday 18th January and continue until Thursday 21st, we would advise people to travel only where absolutely necessary and only for essential reasons, in line with current Covid restrictions. Please take extra care whilst driving and monitor the weather over the next few days.

Flood defence schemes are in place in key locations across the city and we will continue to work with the Environmental Agency as the situation progresses.

Issues on the roads should be reported to the council’s Streets Ahead team on 0114 273 4567. We will have numerous teams responding to reports of flooding and wet spots across the city.
