Easter bank holiday collections

Remember, collections are a day later this week.

Following the Easter bank holiday weekend, collections will be a day later for the rest of the week.

To help crews speed up collections, please put your boxes, bags and bins out by 7am on the day of collection, or the night before.

With waste collections a day later a higher volume of waste is likely. Squashing, crushing and flattening waste can help to reduce the number of trips that teams need to make to empty their trucks, as well as creating more space in your containers.

Is it time to renew your Garden Waste subscription?

Many subscribers to our garden waste collection service will soon receive their renewal notice. However, there’s no need to wait for your notification as subscriptions can be renewed at any time for the following year.

The simplest way to renew your subscription is online, visit our garden waste collection webpage.

You can also follow the link to check when your subscription is due, or sign up as a new subscriber.

If you provide an email address, we’ll email you a renewal notice at least one month before your subscription ends.

Supporting Community Growing: Compost for Polden Environmental Network

During March CAG Somerset was delighted to link up with Karen from the Polden Environmental Network (PEN) to help boost their summer wildlife friendly plant giveaway. 

Karen collected 10 bags of 40 litre compost, generously gifted by our Recycling Site contractor, Biffa. This compost will help PEN grow healthy, wildlife-friendly plants that will be shared with the community over the coming months, to make a difference to their 10 mile long wildlife corridor! 

It was a small piece of support, but one that will make a big difference to a brilliant local initiative encouraging people to garden for nature.  Make sure you look out for their PEN stall at village events.   

A big thankyou to Biffa for their support and for making resources like this available to community groups across Somerset.

Be a good egg and recycle your Easter packaging!

If you’re still making your way through your Easter treat, remember that almost all Easter egg packaging can be recycled in your weekly kerbside collection. Cardboard box – flatten and add to your black recycling box. Aluminium foil – scrunch and put into your bright blue bag. Plastic insert – into your bright blue Bag. Not yet recyclable at the kerbside or our recycling sites, are chocolate bar and sweet wrappers made from plastic film, plastic bags and plastic-foil pouches, plastic ‘windows’ in boxes, and similar thin soft plastic film. Many of these plastics can be dropped off at supermarkets and some are taken in TerraCycle recycling schemes. What to do if you have Easter leftovers

Easter is a time for sharing good food with family and friends – but it can also mean ending up with more leftovers than you expected. The good news is that with a little creativity, Easter leftovers can be turned into easy, tasty meals instead of going to waste.

Recycling Sites have now moved to summer opening hours

All sites will remain open from 9am to 4pm on weekends. Midweek, Recycling Sites are now open until 6pm. Opening days vary from site to site, check online before you visit.
