Households in the former Mendip and South Somerset areas may have a change of collection day, beginning from Monday, 17 June. Each home with a change has been written to, and all households in these areas should have received a service guide.
As well as a change in collection day, around 17,000 residents in these areas will have a one-off collection of rubbish on either Saturday 15 June or Saturday 22 June. These collections will mean that no-one goes too long between rubbish collections.
Anyone unsure if they have one of these extra Saturday collections can use our online lookup feature to check. A PDF version of the updated service guide and collection calendar can also be downloaded.
Recycling is great, but reducing and reusing waste is even better.
If you’re planning a summer clean, don’t forget to check to see if your items could be used again. Your pre-loved items could be another’s treasure and by passing your things on you’re helping to reduce waste.
It’s simple to pass them on and there are several Somerset-based furniture reuse groups where you can donate furniture and white goods. Charities will often collect items for free, so long as they are of good condition and in working order and have the relevant fire safety tags in place.
