Mud and debris clearance on the A39 and A396
Flooding hit parts of West Somerset and Wellington earlier this month after an incredible month's worth of rain fell in a day.
We worked alongside emergency services and local partners to provide support, practical help and advice to those affected. A number of homes and businesses were affected and key roads - the A39 and A396 had to be closed temporarily due to flooding. Both were reopened on the same day and cleared of debris and mud by highways teams within 24 hours.

Surface laying in Minehead
Our Highways team trialled a new, much more eco-friendly method of surface treatment on a section of Warren Road and on Seaward Way in Minehead earlier this month.
The team were using a product called RHiNOPHALT; it is a natural spray that seals cracks and therefore reduces penetration of water, salt and other contaminants while improving the road’s resistance to wear. It will deliver a 94% saving on carbon dioxide emissions in comparison to conventional surface dressing.
