West Bridgford’s Christmas Lights Switch returns this Saturday!
Our free Christmas Lights Switch On in West Bridgford makes a long-awaited return this Saturday, November 27, from 10am until 6pm with live music, food and gift market, street theatre entertainment and a firework spectacular!
The seasonal festivities will take place on Central Avenue in the town throughout the day with entertainment for all the family ahead of the big countdown to the lights turn on at 5pm by our Mayor Cllr Sue Mallender.
The food and gift market will showcase a selection of the region’s and borough’s finest designers and producers, offering a chance to buy a range of seasonal treats to put a smile on the face of a friend or loved one.
From 10am people can enjoy the market and from midday can listen to local djs, singers and performers on the stage in Central Avenue and accompanying performance street art.
All the fun leads to the streets being illuminated with thousands of sparkling lights with a low noise but no less spectacular fireworks finale show.
That’s in line with our wider environmental priorities to protect those affected by louder fireworks. We're operating the event in line with any central government guidelines on COVID-19 and more comfortably distanced features and stalls to allow more social distance for event goers.

A Santa’s Grotto is available at the event with a chance to meet Father Christmas in Cotgrave Hub library, a kids’ fun fair on the Precinct and over 20 stalls will offer wonderful fashion, giftware, sweets, produce and community efforts.
Music will entertain event goers from local artist Dorothy Ella and busking duo The Moonshiners offering a rockabilly Christmas.
There’s a whole range of food and drink on offer from al fresco dining at the town’s newest restaurant Strezza and Little Horsebox Company offering festive alcoholic and non-alcoholic milkshakes and coffees.

Leader responds to HS2 and Integrated Rail Plan news
Our Leader Cllr Simon Robinson has responded on last week's news from central government on HS2 and the Integrated Rail Plan.
He said: “I am delighted that the government is making a significant investment into the East Midlands with the delivery of HS2 to East Midlands Parkway in Rushcliffe and other significant transport upgrades in the region.
“I am excited about any opportunities in conjunction with government and partners for projects that can deliver economic prosperity to the East Midlands. As a partner in the East Midlands Development Corporation we are extremely pleased that it will be accelerated through forthcoming legislation.
“We await further details to be confirmed but we are confident that investment from the Integrated Rail Plan will bring sizeable opportunities and huge benefit for the region.”
Fly-tipping hits four-year low thanks to crackdown with nearly 100 fines
Our action on fly-tipping has increased hugely since the beginning of 2021 with nearly 100 fixed penalty notices being issued to those found blighting local spots with domestic or commercial waste prompting the lowest recorded cases in four years.
Instances of fly-tipping have so far this year reduced by over 30% coinciding with our partnership with Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) to undertake increased enviro crime enforcement.
Residents and businesses are reminded to check that any company or individual they employ to dispose of their waste holds the relevant Trade Waste Carriers’ licence to avoid their unwanted goods contributing to fly-tips or they could be fined themselves.
This can be completed by them showing the relevant licence in person and checking it with the Environment Agency’s listings of registered businesses.

Free timers available to help our residents leave a light on and deter crime
Free timers that enable residents to leave a light on in their properties and help deter criminal activity in their neighbourhoods are now available from our Customer Service Centre and contact points.
Alongside partners Nottinghamshire Police, we are encouraging residents to use the 24-hour timers to switch lights on at specific times and reduce the number of hours their home is left in darkness.
If a house does not have any lights on, it is more likely to be targeted by burglars who could assume it is unoccupied.
