West Bridgford’s Christmas Lights Switch returns on Saturday November 27!
Our free Christmas Lights Switch On in West Bridgford makes a long-awaited return on Saturday November 27 from 10am until 6pm with live music, food and gift market, street theatre entertainment and a firework spectacular!
The seasonal festivities will take place on Central Avenue in the town throughout the day with entertainment for all the family ahead of the big countdown to the lights turn on at 5pm by our Mayor Cllr Sue Mallender.
The food and gift market will showcase a selection of the region’s and borough’s finest designers and producers, offering a chance to buy a range of seasonal treats to put a smile on the face of a friend or loved one.
From 10am people can enjoy the market and from midday can listen to local djs, singers and performers on the stage in Central Avenue and accompanying performance street art.
All the fun leads to the streets being illuminated with thousands of sparkling lights with a low noise but no less spectacular fireworks finale show.
That’s in line with our wider environmental priorities to protect those affected by louder fireworks. We're operating the event in line with any central government guidelines on COVID-19 and more comfortably distanced features and stalls to allow more social distance for event goers.
Please keep encouraging residents to test this Autumn
We're continuing to remind everyone to ensure they receive essential COVID-19 and flu vaccinations this winter when they are eligible.
People can walk in for a booster vaccine at selected sites if they receive notification from the NHS to do so.
Those over 16 are being urged to take up the offer of first and second doses if they haven’t already. Anyone can find their nearest vaccination site and book an appointment on the NHS website or by calling 119.
You can find out more about who is eligible and where to get a flu vaccine here.
Don't forget too keep taking a regular COVID-19 lateral flow test at home or at one of our Community Testing sites.
Remember if anyone has symptoms they should book a test.
For all enquiries on Vaccination appointments please visit Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s CCG website.
For any questions, please email media@rushcliffe.gov.uk.

Free bike repairs and security marking session in Lady Bay this Saturday
Cyclists can get free minor repairs completed and their bikes securely marked on Saturday November 13 at a security event at the Hook in Lady Bay, West Bridgford.
Our Community Safety team and Nottinghamshire Police will host the session at the Hook car park off Holme Road, NG2 5AA adjacent to the skatepark from 10am to 12pm.
The event will be another opportunity to have your bike security marked or registered as a permanent way to mark a bike’s property and ensure it is returned to the rightful owner if it is stolen.
Bike users attending the event will receive advice on how to further protect their cycles from thieves with the use of stronger locks and how bikes should always be locked up in a public and well-lit area.
Weak locks can also be swapped for a ‘D’ lock at the event, whilst stocks last.
The session will also provide burglary prevention advice, 24-hour timers and shed locks to help residents keep their property secure.
First look at new cycle bridge designs as people invited to have their say
Proposals for an exciting scheme that will see a new pedestrian and cycle crossing built over the River Trent have now been shared.
The new Waterside Bridge, funded through the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund, will offer a huge boost to the routes available for cyclists, pedestrians and runners, providing a quieter, safer option for commuter and leisure trips between the Waterside regeneration area on the north bank and Lady Bay on the south.
In addition, new and enhanced connecting paths and crossing points will connect the bridge to the wider walking and cycling network, providing access to housing, employment and open spaces across the city and beyond.
The project is being led by Nottingham City Council, working in partnership with us and in consultation with Nottinghamshire County Council. Our Leader Cllr Simon Robinson met Cllr Rosemary Healy from the City Council to further look at the site this week.
The need for a bridge was identified in the City Council’s Waterside Supplementary Planning Document in 2019. The City Council secured £9.25m from the Government’s Transforming Cities programme to deliver this scheme as part of a programme to invest in local transport infrastructure that will improve sustainable transport, support growth, and encourage more low carbon journeys.
People can view the proposed scheme and comment at www.transportnottingham.com/watersidebridge until Sunday 28 November.
