COVID-19: SOUTH AFRICAN VARIANT FOUND IN REDBRIDGE – ADDITIONAL TESTING IN LOXFORD AND CLEMENTSWOOD

testing starts tomorrow

Dear resident,

Redbridge Council is working with NHS Test and Trace to offer PCR COVID-19 tests to Loxford and Clementswood residents because the variant of the virus, first identified in South Africa, was found in this part of the borough.

You are receiving this email because you live in the part of Loxford and Clementswood where this variant of COVID-19 was found. The area is marked on the map above.

Everyone who is over 16 and living in this part of the borough is strongly encouraged to take a test, even if they are not showing symptoms.

The reason we need you to take a test is to help us understand whether there are any other cases of this variant of the virus in your community and to support anyone affected.

If you test positive for COVID-19, have any symptoms, or are notified by NHS Track and Trace that you have been in contact with someone who tests positive, you should self-isolate immediately.

Please remember that if you do have to self-isolate, you may be eligible for financial support from the government. There is more information about this and support for mental health and wellbeing on our website.

Additional testing from tomorrow

From Friday 26 February, Redbridge Council’s engagement team will be going door-to-door in your community between 10am and 6pm each day to make testing easier. If they visit you, they will offer a free home testing service and you are highly encouraged to take the COVID-19 test to help identify whether the variant is being transmitted in your community.

All tests will be delivered and picked up conveniently from your doorstep by a trained team. The team will be wearing appropriate PPE and will have ID, which shows that they are working on behalf of Redbridge Council.

A mobile test unit is set up at Jubilee Gardens, Ilford Lane for people from the affected areas who do not have any COVID-19 symptoms. You do not have to book but may have to queue.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms you should continue to book a test at www.redbridge.gov.uk/gettested

The more information we can gather about the variant in our wider community, the better chance we have of suppressing it. Please help to keep your community safe by getting tested so we can find the variant and protect you and your loved ones.
