All managers' update

Welcome to the weekly update for managers with information you and your teams need to know. This edition includes:

Induction programme for new managers

Workforce Development

A new induction programme to support new managers and provide them information, tools and resources to manage their team starts next month.

You have told us that you would like more support when you first become a manager to help you in your leadership role and provide you with the context and expectations of managing staff at PCC, essential information, and resources.

Based on your feedback, we've designed an induction programme for new managers.

This programme is open to all managers, so if you have recently joined the council or been promoted to a manager role, please ensure you take part and get the essential information you need to know to be an effective manager.

The first workshop is on 1 December and there are five parts - or modules - of the programme. You can complete any or all of these. The first three modules are available through three-hour workshops and they cover the following:

  • setting the context for management within PCC - the context of how the council operates and what we expect of our managers in the complex and fast changing modern workplace
  • HR policy and process - how to use and access employment policies, HR guidance and what support is available to effectively manage teams.
  • managing workforce health and wellbeing - support and managing the wellbeing, health and safety of staff

Two further e-learning modules on EDI and Finance will be available next year. You can find more about the content for each workshop and dates and also reserve a place on the intranet.

Fusion ORC update

fusion ORC

We are planning to go-live with Fusion ORC on Monday 28 November following successful work by colleagues to resolve technical issues which previously stopped us launching last week.

The new go-live date will mean there is a pause on posting job adverts for one-week from Monday (21 November) to Sunday (27 November) next week. Existing jobs adverts and other recruitment processes will continue as normal during this time. Following this, you'll need to use Fusion ORC to recruit new staff to your team.

Please remember, there is lots of useful guidance on the Fusion ORC intranet page which includes video tutorials, step by step instructions and FAQs.

New location for internal vacancies

The location of internal job opportunities and the careers portal will change from Monday 28 November as part of our move to Fusion ORC.

Internal job opportunities will move to Fusion to make it as straight-forward as possible for staff to find opportunities and apply. The move will bring a range of new features including the ability to set up alerts for new opportunities, favourite opportunities to come back to later, refer colleagues and review applications made. Staff will simply need to log into Fusion and go to current jobs from the homepage.

Careers portal refresh

External job vacancies will remain on the careers portal, which will be refreshed to include new design elements to enhance the experience for those interested in working for us. Information currently on our careers advice, apprenticeships and temporary recruitment pages will remain the same.

First Aid training

First Aid training is available to staff who are required to be First Aid trained as part of their role or are a designated First Aider at one of our PCC sites.

More information on the available course lengths and costs can be found on our First Aid training page and if you would like further information, please contact learninganddevelopment@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

Reminders

Staff can claim a free vaccine this flu season

Please encourage staff to get their free flu jab free this year. Getting a flu jab is the best way to boost their immunity and protect themselves and others from catching the virus. More information on getting a flu jab for 2022/23 available on our intranet page.

Making every contact count (MECC) training and support

As part of our response to the cost-of-living crisis, we have put together a special version of the Public Health Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training specifically to support you and your teams in your work with our residents to help you make a real difference.

There is online and in person training available as well as a short guide on signposting residents to cost of living support, and a longer guide that gives some basics around the principles of MECC and how to have MECC conversations.
