Supporting equality at work

SREN

Our Staff Race Equality Network (SREN) was established last year and is open to all Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff.

Its mission is to empower BAME staff to achieve their full potential through creating positive change, supporting us in furthering the equality agenda and assisting our commitment to achieving racial equality. Its aim is to promote and raise awareness of the need for racial equality by supporting staff and collaborating with the council and local community groups.

The network are developing a strategy that targets recruitment, training, reviewing current policies, developing additional resources, support networks and much more. There are also subcommittees that staff can get involved in. Meetings take place each month where members share experiences, discuss ideas for change and plan events and activities.

You can find out more on our Staff Networks page and to get involved please contact Director of Corporate Services Natasha Edmunds by emailing Natasha.edmunds@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

Budget consultation 2022/2023

budget

Like all councils, Portsmouth is facing costs and increases in demand for care services that exceed the funding received from government and local taxpayers.

Once you take out all the things we have no choice about spending money on, we have a budget of £161m and we need to find £1m of savings in 2022/23. This means we have to make more difficult decisions about where to spend and where to save and we would like to know what you think.

The survey is open until 11.59pm on Wednesday 20 October 2021.

Give your feedback on the draft local plan

The Portsmouth Local Plan is a plan for the whole city for the next fifteen years. It sets out where new homes can be built, opportunities for local jobs and the facilities needed, and how to protect the environment and create high-quality public areas.

We have a virtual consultation room where we have split the plan into topics to make it easier for you to view the areas you are interested in.

We're also hosting drop-in events for residents who are not online or who do not get on with the virtual room format.

Upgrade to Office 365

Please upgrade to Microsoft Office 365 if you haven't done so already. Upgrading your laptop to Office 365 is easy and installation takes no more than 40 minutes.

Almost 50% of staff have already upgraded their device. We are aiming  to get everyone not using an application that doesn't work with Office 365 to complete the upgrade by the end of this month. Please contact Emily De Backer if you have any questions or need any help.

The simplest way to check if you've completed the upgrade is to open Word, PowerPoint or Excel from your taskbar. As it starts up you'll see the application name and Microsoft 365 below if you've upgraded. Find out more.

Office 365 is new software for your laptop which includes the latest versions of Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and OneNote. Instructions for upgrading, including a step-by-step video tutorial, are available on the intranet. Please note, this upgrade does not apply to Port staff.

How to upgrade

Essential maintenance of IT systems

All Windows servers are being updated between 7am and 3pm on Sunday 17 and 24 October 2021. You should not attempt to use your council device during this time.

The update will help ensure that all our IT systems and infrastructure are up to date with the latest security measures and reduce the risk of a cyber-attack.
