New data from Dojo has revealed the UK’s spending habits following restrictions being lifted on April 12. The data suggest that Portsmouth claims the top spot for consumer spending in shops.
Portsmouth residents were ready to get the economy going, spending an average of £131.37 per transaction across a variety of stores.
And shoppers in Portsmouth were spending approximately £15 more per head than the closest city, Coventry.
Closing date for applications to the Additional Restrictions restart and recover grant is 4pm on Monday 14 June 2021
This grant is open for businesses that have not received, or are not eligible for a Restart Grant through Business Rates and have received Additional Restrictions Grant payment for the period 5 January to 31 March 2021.

It's important to note that there are two strands of ARG grant available under this scheme:
- ARG restart grant, where you can claim up to six times your monthly fixed costs.
- Additional funding up to £5,000 to support your business to restart and recover
There is only one application form and you must apply for both strands of funding on the same form. Please consider how you would like to use additional funding before you begin your application.
Examples of ways to use your restart money include:
- Marketing campaigns to attract new customers
- IT support
- Employee wellbeing schemes

A reminder of the 14 June deadline for submitting your May Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) claims.
To claim you must have:
- Created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on or before 2 March 2021 for periods starting on or after 1 May 2021
- Enrolled for PAYE online
- a UK, Isle of Man or Channel Island bank account
- Any entity with a UK payroll can apply, including businesses, charities, recruitment agencies and public authorities.
The call is now closed for Community Renewal Fund projects. Thank you to everyone that has applied.
We will now appraise and prioritise a shortlist of projects based on the UK government assessment criteria and submit to government. Please note that there is a cap of £3 million per place.
The Community Renewal Fund will provide £220 million pilot project funding to support local areas to trial imaginative new approaches and prepare them to take full advantage of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund when it launches in 2022. The scheme is designed to replace EU funding. As a Lead Authority, Portsmouth will be submitting a shortlist of projects on the 17 June 2021.

Art Space Portsmouth is celebrating 40 years of Art Space Portsmouth and Aspex Portsmouth with an open studio event Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July 11am - 5pm at 27 Brougham Road, PO5 4PA.
