The Early Years Inclusion Team are looking for Early Years SENCos to form part of a co-production group to look at Ordinarily Available Provision and what can be expected of settings, to provide for children with SEND.

The group will consist of a range of settings, reflective of the Early Years sector (full day care, sessional providers, childminders and maintained nursery classes) and parents, whose views on what they would like to see Early Years settings able to offer will be invaluable.

If you would like to be part of this group, please email eyinclusion@portsmouthcc.gov.uk by 12 October 2020.

We are keen to set up the first virtual meeting in late October and will require an hour of your time for this meeting.

So if you want to shape the future of SEND in our Portsmouth settings and make your voice heard, please do join us!

View our updated Virtual Training Toolkit for a simpler way to access your Early Years training

Doing things virtually can be quite tricky. However, we have found a way that should simplify the way you access training with a few clicks of the mouse.

We are now using YouTube to host your training. These videos are unlisted in all searches and we ask if you could not share the link given outside of your organisation.

For some settings YouTube may be restricted. In this case we have also used Google Drive to host the training.

With training made simpler and FREE for the autumn and spring terms why not click here and take advantage of this offer by booking some training for your setting.

I am aware that things might be slightly different this year but if you do have a child with English as an Additional Language (EAL) in your setting, and you would like bilingual support from EMAS, you can refer the child to us by completing this referral form. In all our involvements with settings, we will adhere to the specific COVID-19 risk assessments, as well as ensure that our own staff are protected at all times.

For regular bilingual support, we usually concentrate on children in their last year before they start school but we can provide one-off support for younger children and facilitate communication with parents.

As you might be aware, the main work of EMAS is in schools so the demand for bilingual support across the city is very high and it might therefore not be possible to immediately meet the needs of the child/ren in your settings. However, we endeavour to support you in the best way we can.

Over the next few months, we might also have some capacity to do more translations as there might be times where our bilingual staff have to self-isolate at home. So if there are any resources that you would like translated then please let me know.
