6th Annual Portsmouth Inclusion Conference
The 6th annual Portsmouth Inclusion Conference took place on 10th October. The theme of the conference this year was leadership and inclusion. Keynote presentations were delivered by Adam Boddison, Chief Executive of the National Association of Special Educational Needs, and Gareth Morewood, specialist leader of education and national speaker on inclusive education. There were also a range of high quality workshops led by Portsmouth professionals on topics including 'leading an inclusive' school and 'exploring practical approaches for addressing barriers to inclusion'.
The conference was attended by 125 head teachers, senior leaders, SENCos and other professionals from education, health and social care. Some of the feedback on this year's conference:
'An excellent day - one of the best conferences so far! Thank you' 'As always a useful and inspiring day. I loved how all sessions had practical ideas' 'Really well organised and great speakers!' 'This conference always inspires me to go back to school and implement change'

Transfer to Secondary School 2020
The national closing date for secondary transfer applications is fast approaching - Friday 31st October 2019 (which falls during half term).
We would be grateful if all junior and primary schools could start highlighting the above deadline to parents in any relevant school communications e.g. newsletters, text messages and on your website.
As we approach closing date, we will also be providing you with lists of children who have not yet applied and would ask you to assist us in chasing these parents up. As you will be very aware, a late application considerably lessens the chance of a child being allocated one of their preference schools.
We would like 100% of Y6 parents requiring secondary placement for their child to make an on-time application, we'd be grateful for your help in achieving this.
