Join in the Great British Beach Clean

The Great British Beach Clean (created by the Marine Conservation Society) is now in it’s 25th year, a year which has seen huge changes in attitudes to plastic use and waste across the globe. Poole Enviroteers, working with Poole Heathlands, will be running two local beach cleans this month

On Saturday 15 September come and help out at Holes Bay between 10am and 1pm (meet at the grass verge opposite Wessex Gate retail park). Or join us at Ham Common on Sunday 16 September from 10am to 1pm (meet at Lake Pier car park). We’ll have plenty of litter pickers and sacks available (including some smaller ones for kids); we just recommend that you wear sturdy footwear. Everyone is welcome to come and help - for as long or as short as you like. Bring your friends and family!

Improvements for Branksome Rec

Improvement works begin at Branksome Rec this month. We'll be replacing the boundary fence along Alder Road up to the car park, raising and widening some of the internal paths to prevent flooding, and installing extra benches around the perimeter. We'll also increase the size of the play area to make room for new equipment.

The play area will remain closed until the works are complete, and paths will be closed for periods when necessary. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but look forward to bringing you an improved open space! Find out more about this project.

Alexandra Park – what next?

Thank you very much to everyone who completed the questionnaire to help us plan improvements to Alexandra Park. We received over 240 responses which really demonstrates how valued the park is. We recently held a feedback consultation session at the Pavilion where we presented our initial results and next steps. Poole Park improvements continue

Poole Park

The second phase of improvements to the Poole Park War Memorials, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and War Memorial Trust, has begun. These include:

  • creating a new entrance from Parkstone Road that gently slopes into the park instead of the current steps through the memorial gates
  • new soil and roses planted and the installation of an irrigation system
  • Purbeck stone paving laid around the cross, replacing the current concrete paving slabs, along with new steps to the lagoon-side of the cross.

These works form the latest phase of construction works of the Poole Park Life project. Extensive landscaping to freshwater lakes and improvements to the lagoon, plus a new bridge over the sluice channel will all take place this winter. Find out more.

Paddling pool refurbishment

Refurbishments to Hamworthy Park paddling pool are due to begin this Autumn. We're delighted to be working with the Friends of Hamworthy Park, who have already raised £25,000 and continue to raise more funds towards the cost of refurbishment. The majority of the funding will come from the Borough of Poole's Community Infrastructure Levy.

The paddling pool refurbishment follows a number of other improvements at Hamworthy Park over the last year, such as new footpaths, refreshed signage, and improvements to play and landscaping. Find out more.
