Lottery boost for park plans

Upton Country Park - Announcement Cheer

Borough of Poole have successfully bid for National Lottery funding to develop proposals to restore and enhance Upton Country Park.

The £185,000 of National Lottery money, awarded jointly by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund, will allow the council to develop a second round bid for up to £1.9 million to deliver their Discovery Project.

The project would see further improvements to the country park including vital repair work to infrastructure, the introduction of volunteer facilities, re-creation of the historic Pleasure Grounds and a welcome centre.

Many thanks to everybody who has contributed to the Discovery project so far.

Poole Park Life

Bench Memorial

A calendar has been added to our website providing up to date information regarding main works and activities at Poole Park.  We hope this helps park users understand the improvements and how you can be involved.

Improvement works around Poole Park - In February contractors are undertaking tree works around the Freshwater Lakes. The work includes maintenance, removing dead or declining trees, and project work to prepare for improvements later this year to landscaping around the lakes.

Quiet Garden Bench Donation - There are two benches for which we are seeking donations through the Bench Memorial Scheme.  Donations are made on a 10 year basis and include a plaque with wording of your choice.  If this is of interest to you, please get in touch with Toni Powell on 01202 261757, or email.

Spring is on its way

Sun Lizard

February can be a thrillingly optimistic month!

As the days lengthen we are surrounded by sights and sounds that spring is coming, such as glimpses of daffodil and snow-drop shoots, and bird-song which will crescendo through this month as territory is marked and challenged.

One sight we don’t readily associate with this time of year is the sun loving Sand lizard, which one of our heath wardens surprisingly managed to capture on camera this January.

So chin up folks, we’re almost through!
