Fire Safety Campaign for E Scooters & E Bikes
Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service are working with Oxford City Council to remind Landlords about the hazards of Lithium-Ion batteries that are used on E Bikes and E Scooters. With the average cost of damage due to a house fire at £29,200 (2023 report on Economic and social cost of fire) we are asking Landlords to share this information with their tenants, and to watch out for E Bikes and E Scooters in corridors when visiting your buildings whilst carrying out your regular safety inspections.
By passing on this key safety information to existing and new tenants, we will be able to keep tenants safer whilst also protecting your property from damage or lost income.
Please could you either email the tenants the following text and/or print off the poster linked below to put on your safety notice board at each of your houses.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council would like to remind all residents about the dangers Lithium-Ion batteries, which are found on E Bikes and E Scooters, can present if they catch fire in your home. Please see the attached poster for more information as it provides simple advice to keep you all safe.
Remember: • Don’t charge or store your battery in the hallway or where it could block your escape • Don’t leave your device charging unattended or when you’re asleep. • Only use the correct charger for your battery. • It is recommended that a professional carries out an e-bike conversion. • Only buy e-bikes, e-scooters and batteries from trusted retailers and manufacturers.
