Oxford Brookes University values its relationship with its neighbours. Their Community Engagement team works with local resident groups to enable students and permanent local residents to live amicably alongside each other and address any incidents of antisocial behaviour caused by Brookes students.
They provide advice and guidance to students to help them settle into their community and encourage them to be responsible neighbours and show consideration to those around them.
In partnership with Thames Valley Police, Oxford City Council and Oxford Direct Services they ensure students receive the most relevant and up to date information to assist them living in the community. At the start of each academic year, they work collaboratively to collate relevant information and deliver an initiative called the House Champion Scheme. This provides students with top tips on how to be good neighbours, including how to keep noise at reasonable levels at all times, how to manage their household waste as well as how to keep their property safe.
They would like to work more closely with landlords and letting agents to provide a collaborative approach to communicating to students their responsibilities while living in private rented accommodation.
Similar to last year, they have produced a poster which brings together the advice from all the partners, including URL links and QR codes for further information. The poster will be included in the House Champion welcome packs, which will be hand delivered to student houses in East Oxford and streets surrounding the university’s Headington Campus.
We would be grateful if you could help distribute the posters by emailing the PDF to your Brookes student tenants. To download the poster, please go to www.brookes.ac.uk/community-student-info and click on ‘House Champion Scheme (PDF)’.
If you would like further information or are interested in working more closely together, please contact the Community Engagement team at community@brookes.ac.uk.
