Welcome to the latest update on the Hafod landfill site. This newsletter provides information on recent meetings, ongoing work at the site and how we regulate the landfill.
Work at the site is continuing in line with the Leachate Management Action Plan (LMAP). This plan is regularly updated by the operator and outlines the actions that will be taken to manage leachate on site and address permit compliance issues
The operator is currently removing silt that has built up in parts of the leachate management system.
Once this work has been completed, the operator will carry out a CCTV survey of all leachate wells. Our officers will be present during the survey. The operator will then provide us with a report on the condition of each well, including any blockages or other issues that could affect leachate levels.
The operator aims to complete these works by September 2026. Once we have reviewed the findings, we will consider whether any further action is needed.

We continue to carry out regular review of monitoring data, site inspections and off-site odour assessments.
Copies of Compliance Assessment Reports (CARs), which provide information on inspections and regulatory activity at the site, can be viewed on our public register.
