New Health and Wellbeing Strategy approved
Nottinghamshire’s Health and Wellbeing Board has approved a new Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Nottinghamshire, which aims to help everyone live healthier and happier lives, prosper in their communities and remain independent in later life.
Through this Strategy, we plan to strengthen the building blocks of good health and wellbeing. These building blocks include things like having a safe home, education and employment, access to a healthy diet, and getting the best start in our early years.
Adult abuse: See it – report it
Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day. There were 9758 safeguarding adult referrals to the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub in Nottinghamshire last year (2021/2022).
- 55.6 % of these involved adults aged over 65
- The type of abuse most frequently reported was neglect.
If you know any adult with care and support needs who could be neglected or abused, please report it now.

Look out for others in the hot weather
During the hot weather this week, we’re asking everyone to do their bit and keep a look out for older people and others who may find it more difficult to stay cool and hydrated. Here are a few simple tips that could help during the warmer spell:
- stay out of the direct sun, especially between 11am and 3pm
- drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
- apply sunscreen, wear a hat and light, loose cotton clothes
- avoid extreme physical exertion during the hot weather
- don’t leave babies, children, vulnerable people or pets alone in stationary cars in hot weather.

Smokefree Notts by 2030
Our Public Health team has welcomed the recommendation of an independent national review into Tobacco Control Policies which could help England become smokefree by 2030.
The review recommended four critical interventions:
- raising the age of sale from 18 by one year every year, until eventually no one can buy a tobacco product in this country
- increased investment of an additional £125 million per year in smokefree 2030 policies, with an extra £70 million per year ringfenced for stop smoking services
- promotion of vapes as an effective ‘swap to stop’ tool to help people quit smoking
- improving prevention in the NHS so smokers are offered advice and support to quit at every interaction they have with health services.
