The PM’s plan to ease restrictions at Step 4

Earlier this week the Prime Minister set out the Government’s plan to ease national restrictions at Step 4 of the Roadmap. He reminded people that Covid-19 has not gone away, and everybody’s personal judgement in managing the risk will be key learning to live with the virus.

Mr Johnson highlighted that social distancing will end at Step 4, there will be no limits on the number of people at gatherings and wearing face coverings will no longer be compulsory – although guidance will be place to suggest where people might choose to continue to wear them.

The Prime Minister is expected to make a further announcement on 12 July to confirm that legal restrictions will end on 19 July, when we move into Step 4. Until then, we remain in Step 3.

School ‘bubbles’ to end from 19 July

School children

This week, the Government announced upcoming changes to guidance for early years settings, school and colleges.

From 19 July, the ‘bubble’ system for schools will end. Social distancing, the wearing of face masks and staggered start and finish times will also be coming to an end. Face coverings will also no longer be recommended on dedicated school transport.

Hands. Face. Space. Fresh Air

Mike knows in all shops it is essential to keep following the rules

Although the end is in sight, we are still in Step 3 of the roadmap so let’s not forget hands, face, space, fresh air:

Hands – Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or using hand sanitizer, regularly throughout the day will reduce the risk of catching or passing on the virus

Face – Face coverings can reduce the spread of coronavirus droplets in certain circumstances, helping to protect others.

Space – Keep following the 2metre distancing rule and making space.

Fresh air – Fresh air is still one of the best defences against the virus. So keep windows open to let plenty of air in if you are indoors or meet friends and family outside.

Step 3 Guidance

Twice-weekly testing remains a crucial way to stop the spread

Rapid Covid-19 tests

As we learn to live with coronavirus, it's essential to keep testing for the virus to protect others. Rapid lateral flow tests are for anyone without symptoms of Covid-19 and are free for everyone. You can take these rapid tests at home or at one of Nottinghamshire's community testing sites.

You can also order free home test kits delivered to your door online or by calling 119.

Come on England! Give Covid-19 the red card by staying outside

Watching the football outside

Can't wait for the finals on Sunday? Neither can we! If you're watching the game with family and friends, remember it's safer to meet outdoors in the fresh air. In Step 3, you can gather with up to 30 people outdoors and when meeting others indoors, keep to the rule of six or two households.

Meeting others safely
