 Nottinghamshire households with children of school age are urged to get two rapid Covid-19 tests per week
Rapid, regular testing is designed to minimise the spread of Covid-19 and support the successful return of more learners to face-to-face education and childcare settings. It is a vital part of our response to Covid-19, supporting the roadmap set out by the Prime Minister.
Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Getting tested regularly, twice a week, will help us to identify cases early and break the chain of transmission. Each positive case identified can help prevent additional people from becoming infected over time.
“Regular testing will help to find cases that would otherwise have gone undetected. Testing, alongside staying at home, following the Hands, Face, Space rules, getting a test if you have symptoms and self-isolating if your test is positive all remain critical to keep reducing the rate of infection and protect each other.
“I would strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of the testing facilities that are now widely available across the county.”
If you are over 50, you can now make an appointment for your covid vaccine.
You can book an appointment by using the local NHS online booking system or call 0115 883 4640 (between 8am – 8pm Mon – Fri or 9am – 5pm Sat – Sun).
Or via the National Booking Service (for Mansfield Vaccination Centre or one of the pharmacy-led services) where you can book online or call 119 (free of charge, anytime between 7am and 11pm seven days a week).

If you are in one of the following ‘cohort 6’ groups, you are eligible for the covid vaccine. It is important to take up the opportunity to be vaccinated, as it is the best possible protection against the virus. If you are in one of these groups and you are pregnant, you can still have the covid vaccination. You can discuss the benefits of the vaccine with a health professional.
You are eligible if you:
- are ‘clinically vulnerable’ (between the ages of 16 to 65 with underlying health conditions which put you at a higher risk of serious disease or mortality)
- are eligible for a carer’s allowance
- are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person, whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill
- have a learning disability
- have autism
- have dementia.

From 1 April, clinically extremely vulnerable people will no longer be advised to shield as virus infection rates continue to fall. If you are clinically extremely vulnerable you will receive a letter within the next few weeks containing further advice from the Government.
It is still recommended to take extra precautions to protect yourself while the virus is still spreading in our communities and continue to maintain strict social distancing and work from home where possible.

If you develop symptoms of Covid-19, stay at home and self-isolate immediately. If you have a positive test result but do not have symptoms, stay at home and self-isolate as soon as you receive the results. Your household needs to isolate too.
