Nottinghamshire's got talent

talented athletes in Notts

We're delighted to announce that 75 grants totalling £21,000 are being awarded to budding local athletes and para-athletes through our Talented Athletes Fund to help them achieve their sporting ambitions.

We'll be sharing some of their stories of how they've adapted their training during the national lockdowns, helped their local communities and what the funding means to them on our social media channels.

Check out the #NottsTalentedAthletes hashtag.

Some of the local groups that have been awarded funding...

Calverton Core group sat outside

Calverton Core is helping the community with a range of support, from hosting virtual exercise classes and friendship calls to providing batteries for hearing aids.

Becky Lord from the group encourages others to apply for funding.

"We are very grateful to the County Council for their financial support which enables us to continue this much needed work in the community."

Spectrum Wasp Community Group

Sue Edwards, Group Co-ordinator at Spectrum Wasp is delighted to have been awarded funding to help them continue to support families in the local area.

" We've had to find different ways to work through lockdown and connect with the families we support.

Our Life Line helps us to keep in touch with the most vulnerable families to spread positivity and make sure they're OK. We're continuing to do food deliveries to help families that may be struggling."

Musicworks Community group

Helen Tooth Co-ordinator and Music in Care Practitioner at Heron Music Cafe is a keen advocate of the benefits of singing and music to our health.

"Singing is good for you. It can help improve your mood and take your mind off the day's troubles.

In these stressful times, Musicworks are using this therapeutic power of music to improve peoples' mental health and wellbeing with the Heron Music Cafe for wellbeing sing-along sessions, free to access via Facebook and Youtube or DVD.

Funding from Nottinghamshire County Council is enabling us to maintain and enhance this wonderful experience for the community."
