Have your fairy lights lost their twinkle?
If you're getting the Christmas decorations ready for going up and discovered that the lights are more faulty than fairy remember to take them to your local recycling centre rather than putting them in the kerbside bins at home folks.
Don't forget you can recycle broken electrical or old electronic items you no longer need at our recycling centres too, from electric toothbrushes, old hairdryers, kettles to phone chargers. These products all contain valuable components that can be reused and/or recycled so keep them out of the bin!

Real tree or an artificial tree? That is the question!
If you’re celebrating Christmas this year we want to know whether you're opting for a real tree or fake tree.

In Nottinghamshire after your rubbish bin is emptied by your local Borough and District Council, the waste is taken to an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) and used to make renewable energy...
...Which is pretty awesome and helps us to create more sustainable energy!

Buying only what we need and using up all of what we buy is a great way to keep food out of the bin and reduce food waste.
Similarly if you have been able to grow your own fruit and vegetables, ensure you freeze, swap or donate any surplus.
Whilst making bubble and squeak is always a good option, leftovers don’t have to be dull. We've got lots of yummy seasonal recipes to help you use up those leftovers!

Throughout November, December, January and February the recycling centres will open at 8am- 4pm.
The county's recycling centres are open every day apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Using your freezer is a great way to minimise the number of shopping trips you have to make. It’s also a fantastic way to extend the life of a whole range of foods that might otherwise go to waste.
We all know that meat, pizza and ice cream can be frozen, but there may be a few foods that might surprise you! Eggs, milk, bread, even cheese – in fact, almost anything can be frozen.
Don’t forget to label and date whatever you freeze to avoid any unidentified frozen objects.
