 Nottinghamshire employers can now apply for apprenticeship levy funds
The fund supports businesses to take on new apprentices and to develop existing employees.
The apprenticeship levy is already giving employers, like us at Nottinghamshire County Council, the opportunity to invest in high quality training, helping to get the skilled workforce needed to thrive, succeed and grow their business.
We are now able to work with more employers, supporting them to take on new apprentices and to develop existing employees. This is all part of our recovery plan to support businesses to help the economy grow
It is great time for businesses to look at taking on an apprentice, with this news brought to you on the back of the Government’s recent announcement of incentive payments for new apprenticeship starts and existing incentives for young people

 Helping food businesses in the East Midlands
FSB (National Federation of Self Employed & Small Businesses) are hosting a virtual support session to share thoughts about how smaller food businesses can use marketing and innovation to increase profits.
The session will be chaired by Michael Weedon, the FSB’s East Midlands Policy Representative and Chair of FSB’s Retail and High Street Policy Unit.

 Pavement cafe licence
If you run a business and want to place tables, chairs or other temporary furniture on the pavement you will require a licence. This must be obtained from your local district council. The powers to grant pavement café licences were transferred from the County Council to the District Councils on 22 July 2020 when the Business and Planning Act was passed.

COVID19 Resilience, Recovery and Renewal
The Council held its first meeting of the newly established COVID19 Resilience, Recovery and Renewal Committee on the 16th July. The papers offer details of the Council’s activities to date to support its residents, communities and our businesses tackle the impact of the virus. Nottinghamshire businesses will be interested to learn more about the Nottinghamshire COVID19 Economic Recovery Framework with the Plan being launched later this year.

Leaving the EU
The Government has launched a public consultation, inviting businesses and stakeholders with an interest in the border to help develop the 2025 UK Border Strategy. The consultation will be open for six weeks and closes on 28 August 2020.
This follows the publication of the Border Operating Model (BOM) on 13 July, which outlines how the UK's border with the European Union will work following the end of the transition period. The consultation is not seeking views on the BOM but rather seeks to look ahead to the future and explore how the Government and border industry, working together, can deliver a transformed border by 2025
