Hoax postal delivery scam
PhonepayPlus, the UK regulator for premium rate and phone-paid services, has made us aware that there has been a hoax warning email circulating about a postal delivery scam operating on the number 09066611911. The number is no longer in use and was shut down by PhonepayPlus a number of years ago.
Against a background of one of the busiest times of year for shoppers and ecommerce merchants the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) is today issuing an email alert to several hundred users of a variety of online services.
Intelligence received by the bureau suggests that accounts linked to these email addresses have been compromised and believes that the offenders are preparing to misuse the accounts over the coming weeks.
There are just a few days left to get all of your Christmas shopping sorted and whilst people are rushing around, online shopping fraudsters are using the run-up to the big day as an opportunity to illegally make money.
