Celebrate the stories, landmarks, and legacy of North Kesteven during Heritage Open Days, running from 12-21 September. This nationwide festival offers a unique opportunity to explore the district’s rich history through free access to historic buildings, guided walks, and exclusive behind-the-scenes tours. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, there’s something for everyone.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest celebration of history and culture, powered by passionate volunteers and local organisations. Each September, communities across the country come together to share stories, uncover traditions, and bring the past to life. Many events are family-friendly and offer interactive experiences, from storytelling to hands-on activities.
In North Kesteven, highlights include a Victorian Blacksmith demonstration at Navigation House on 13 September, and an exhibition at Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum exploring the origins of College Hall. It’s a chance to connect with the past, meet passionate volunteers, and uncover hidden gems. Find out what’s happening near you at Heritage Open Days website.
Sleaford is set to come alive this September with a vibrant mix of creativity, community, and youth-led events.
On 6 September, Sleaford hosts a vibrant day of activity with the Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, Town Crier Competition, Farmer’s Market, and Art Market—a great mix of heritage, creativity, and local produce. On 13 September, the Makers and Creators Market takes over the space, offering a delightful array of handmade gifts, artworks, and treats.
From 18–21 September, The Zone returns—an award-winning pop-up space for young people aged 11–18, featuring creative workshops, games, and chill-out zones. On Saturday 20 September, The Teenage Market will showcase the talent and entrepreneurial spirit of local youth, with young traders and performers taking centre stage. Whether you're browsing artisan stalls or supporting young creatives, there's something for everyone to enjoy in Sleaford this September.

Discover the rich heritage and creative spirit of North Kesteven along the Ridges & Furrows Arts and Heritage Trail. This 30-mile route follows the Lincoln Edge, linking The Hub in Sleaford with Millennium Green in North Hykeham.
Along the way, you’ll encounter permanent artworks, village heritage trails, and sections of the Viking Way and Stepping Out Walks. The trail celebrates local history through artist residencies, cultural events, and community-led projects in villages like Welbourn, Waddington, and North Hykeham.
Whether you're walking for leisure or exploring the area's past, the trail offers a unique blend of art, landscape, and storytelling. You can follow the route via the free AllTrails app or find it on the Hill Holt Wood website. For more outdoor activities across the district, visit the Time Outdoors section on our website.
