Have you visited the "Lincolnshire's Home Guard" exhibition at Mrs Smith's Cottage in Navenby? On display until September, this exhibition, curated by Dr. Erik Grigg of Bishop Grosseteste University, reveals the true significance of the Home Guard during World War II. While many recall the comedic portrayal in the BBC series Dad's Army, Dr. Grigg emphasizes that the Home Guard was a serious force, essential in defending Britain from potential Nazi invasion and enabling regular troops to engage abroad.
Dr. Grigg states, "I wanted to celebrate their work, which they did in evenings and weekends after long shifts on farms and factories, to show that they were more than a bumbling bunch of buffoons."
Visitors can explore original and replica items, learning about the dedication and sacrifices of these volunteers. Mrs Smith's Cottage, with its preserved historical charm, provides a fitting backdrop to this compelling story.
Celebrate their work and share your memories with Mrs Smith’s Cottage. The exhibition is open from 12-4pm, Friday to Monday. Book your visit on their website and make sure to experience this remarkable tribute before it continues its travels in September.
The Hub in Sleaford is excited to announce ‘Paperwork’, a captivating exhibition running from July 20th to November 17th, in the Main Gallery.
