Volunteer Week 23

Volunteers Week is here, and we're thrilled to join the nation in honouring the incredible contributions of volunteers across the country. From 1st to 7th June, we celebrate the individuals who make a difference in their communities with their acts of kindness.

Volunteers Week is an opportunity to highlight the countless ways volunteers contribute to society. From tackling social issues, to preserving our heritage and environment and supporting vulnerable individuals, volunteers play a crucial role in shaping a better future for all. Together, we can create positive change and inspire others to make a difference. ✨

Father's Day Ideas - Sunday 17th June

Hill Holt Fire

Looking for ideas to celebrate Father's Day in the Heart of Lincs?

Why not grab Dad and bring him along to meet the Ranger at Hill Holt Wood and use your strikers to make a camp fire – who doesn’t want to bring out the inner Cave Dad? Afterwards you can also enjoy a stroll around the little ancient wood. This activity is free as part of the NK Walking Festival, and you can book your tickets here.

If your dad is a beer enthusiast, head to Heckington's 8 Sail Brewery, where he can savour a variety of handcrafted beers while learning about the brewing process.

Whether it's reconnecting with nature or raising a glass to toast your dad, these destinations offer unique experiences that will make Father's Day extra special in the Heart of Lincs.

A Community Pool, run entirely by volunteers

Meg swimming pool

Metheringham Swimming Pool

Since 1975, Metheringham swimming pool has been serving the community. Initially, the villagers dug out the pool using spades, driven by their desire to provide school children with the opportunity to learn how to swim. Today, the pool is entirely operated by dedicated volunteers who organize year-round fundraising efforts. With trained lifeguards ensuring safety, Metheringham Pool is cherished as the pride of the village.

Whether you're seeking a fun family swim, looking to boost your fitness in Zumba and Adult Swim sessions, or want to introduce your child to swimming, you’re welcome to join every season and make a splash! The team are also proud to cater to swimmers with special requirements, such as wheelchair users with a seat for easy access in and out of the water and a dedicated disabled changing room.

The pool are constantly seeking volunteers to join the team, particularly in their Tuck Shop. For every shift you contribute at the Tuck Shop, you’re offered a complimentary drink, and after every two shifts, you can enjoy a free swim!
