We're working to install some assets along a number of high streets in North Kesteven to help promote them as wonderful – and safe – places for shopping and more.
They’re being put in place using a share of the Government’s Welcome Back fund made available to support Councils for measures that deliver a safe environment for businesses and customers in the wake of the Covid-19 global pandemic.
They will be installed over the coming weeks along high streets in Sleaford, Bracebridge Heath, Heckington, Metheringham, North Hykeham, Ruskington, Waddington, Washingborough and Navenby, and will come in different forms including boards on lampposts, banners, bollard covers, floor stickers and posters at bus stops as appropriate for each high street.
The assets have been designed in such a way, including specially commissioned local photography featuring businesses for each, to celebrate the character and unique offer of each place.
There will also be refreshed bunting to share with businesses, to replace the existing Covid-safe materials we provided earlier in the year.

On 4 September, in Sleaford, there are numerous events taking place and we’re pulling all of them together into one big ‘Eventful’ day.
There’s Love Our Planet at the Hub, the Sleaford Classic Car and Motorcycle Show at the Council Offices car park, a cycling event at East Banks/Riverside, the Artisan Market at Millstream Square, Farmers Market and Town Crier Competition in the Market Place, as well as the usual shopping and visitor attractions to enjoy in Sleaford.
We plan to create a trail linking these separate activities, to help draw people into town for an appealing, safe day out. We hope you’d like to participate!
Decorate a bike to represent your group, business or club
As part of this day, we’re inviting local groups and businesses to decorate used bicycles (use your own defunct bike or we can provide a limited number). We’ll distribute them in prominent locations around the town creating a bright and colourful trail.
You can pick your own theme and colours, and decorate in any way you like (as long as it’s not political or offensive to others). We encourage you to include your group/business/club name and use it as an opportunity to promote yourselves.
NKDC is running a pop-up cycling stand along the river on the day, which these cycles will tie in to.
Let us know that you’d like to take part and if you need a bike to be supplied by contacting the communications team. We’ll be back in touch to arrange for you to collect the bike from a central location. It’ll need to be returned to us by Thursday 2 September so we can put it out in the town centre.
Yarn-bombing
You may also be interested in another crafty opportunity. We’re encouraging people to take over the town centre with yarn-bomb decorations – can you get crafty and bring the town centre to life?
There are plenty of spots where yarn-bombing can happen – bollards, postboxes, lamp posts, sign posts, railings, phone boxes… the opportunities are almost endless. Again, feel free to include your group/business name.
Take a look around town, pick a spot, and get creative. We’d ask you to put your woolly creations out on Friday 3 September or before 10am on Saturday 4 September. Some spots will have event banners and signage on them, so do get in touch if you’re planning to use a specific spot. If you have any questions please contact Communications@n-kesteven.gov.uk
