 From today (24 July) face coverings are mandatory in shops and supermarkets, to protect those who work in shops and to give people more confidence to shop safely. Those who do not wear a face covering in shops will face a fine of up to £100.
Shops can refuse entry to someone not wearing a face covering and can call the police if someone fails to comply.

On 8 July 2020, the government announced that it would introduce a temporary 5% reduced rate of VAT for certain supplies of hospitality, hotel and holiday accommodation, and admissions to certain attractions.
This cut in the VAT rate from the standard rate of 20% will have effect from 15 July 2020 to 12 January 2021.
These changes have been brought in as an urgent response to the coronavirus pandemic to support businesses severely affected by forced closures and social distancing measures. For more information please see here.
- Submit your CJRS claim for periods ending on or before 30 June 2020 by 31 July 2020. This is the last date you can make those claims. You need to have made a claim at any point on or before 31 July to be able to make a claim for future months.
- From 1 August 2020 the scheme will no longer fund employers’ National Insurance (NI) and pensions contributions for furloughed employees. You will have to make these payments from your own resources.
- From 1 September 2020 you will have to start contributing to the wages of your furloughed employees. Grants will be for 70% of usual wages in September and 60% in October, but furloughed employees will continue to be entitled to receive at least 80% of their usual wages. You will have to make up the difference from your own resources.

Business events, conferences and events centres will be given the go ahead to reopen on 1 October adhering to social distancing, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced Friday (17 July).
Provided levels of infection remain at current rates, this will see the return of the sector worth approximately £32.6 billion to the UK each year.
