SMEP Land

Business plans step forward in Sleaford

North Kesteven District council has embarked on a commercial partnership to help bring forward a planned 37-acre business park in Sleaford.

As the masterplan for the site begins to take shape, biT Group (an arm of Telford and Wrekin Council) will provide support on the basis of design and project management.

We’re also working with local firm D. Hatcher & Sons to clear the site so detailed survey works can take place to  help shape our vision.

The ambitious scheme forms an integral part of the vision for the district and could deliver around 2,500 jobs through the creation of 485,000sq ft of business space across a number of units. The site was purchased after the private sector was slow to act on its potential as strategic employment land.

Executive Board Members for the project including Council Leader, Councillor Richard Wright invited representatives from biT Group to formally shake hands on the partnership at a meeting on 11thFebruary.

EU Transition Support for local businesses

In the lead up to our departure from the European Union (EU), local enterprise partnerships across Greater Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire have developed a programme to provide businesses in the East Midlands access to up to 12 hours support to help prepare for EU exit and a further 12 hours to develop their resilience and recognise opportunities for growth. The building resilience programme aims to ensure that businesses in the East Midlands are informed and prepared to deal with any challenges that may result from the UK’s departure from the EU, as well as identifying and capitalising opportunities that may result.

The programme consists of seminars which outline the next steps for businesses to consider, sector specific workshops and one to one support from specialist advisers. The programme is fully funded at no cost to businesses and is available to any businesses located in Greater Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire. To find out about other support available to your business, please contact your local Growth Hub www.businesslincolnshire.comor visit www.business-resilience.uk

Changing Landscape for Sleaford Marketplace

Planning permission has been granted for a section of the Market Place in Sleaford to be used as an alfresco eating and drinking area. Whilst the area will support and allow the businesses on market place to grow it will also greatly benefit the town and wider community from the increased footfall and creation of a refreshed landscape for the town.

NKDC are in the process of meeting with the businesses involved to create a plan and look at designs for the new area. These businesses include Tiamo Italian restaurant, El Toro cocktail and tapas bar and Market square café and restaurant, with the changes forecast to take shape in spring.

The new plans will coincide with existing projects designed to enhance the town centre, such as the pop-up public realm that was introduced last year. Existing planters will be moved to create a pedestrian area outside Tiamo across to the water fountain from the Market Square café and restaurant.

Mrs Smith

Mrs Smith’s Cottage is free from scaffolding

The National Lottery Heritage Fund and NKDC are working together on the Mrs Smith’s Cottage project to bring the museum back into use as a popular heritage attraction. The museum was closed in 2012 when serious structural issues and deterioration of the building became apparent. This resulted in the roof requiring work and subsequently the cottage being hidden under an abundance of scaffolding for recent years.

Following repair work completed by Lindum Group, the scaffolding came down in a timely and safe manner and the cottage can now start taking shape in readiness for its re-opening. With the scaffolding now removed, staff and volunteers at the cottage look forward to welcoming people to the venue to participate in the Discover Lincolnshire Weekend on March 28 and 29 which will include a behind the scenes tour and an exhibition exploring the wallpaper from within the cottage.
