Easter waste and recycling collections

The Easter bank holiday weekend is approaching and North Devon Council is reminding residents to check when to put their waste and recycling out for collection.

There will be no waste or recycling collections on Good Friday (10 April). Collections due that day will be made on Saturday 11 April instead.

All waste and recycling collections in the week commencing Monday 13 April will take place one day later that week (running from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 April).

Lots of homes will have more cardboard and foil than usual, thanks to a visit from the Easter bunny. Residents are being asked to dispose of this additional waste by recycling the packaging; flatten cardboard Easter egg boxes and put them in your brown bags, and scrunch up foil before putting it in your recycling box. Any plastic boxes (except black plastic) can also be recycled.

The council is also asking residents to place their glass recycling in a separate container from their plastic and tins to help the recycling crews during the Coronavirus outbreak. If residents don't have a second recycling box they can use any container they do have available, such as a bucket, washing basket or untied carrier bag. 

Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Worden says: “We are very lucky to have many dedicated and hard working refuse collectors who are still going out on their rounds day after day to provide an important service to our residents during these difficult times. Waste and recycling collections are always a day late following a bank holiday, but if you’re in any doubt about your collection dates you can check our website any time, particularly during the current situation where many of us find we are out of our usual routine.

“Please wash your hands before putting your bins and recycling containers at the kerbside before 7am on the day of your collection to avoid them being missed by our crews. Following a bank holiday, when your collection day changes, your waste may well be collected at a different time of day than you are used to.

Our crews have been taken aback by all the public support that has been shown to them and they are extremely grateful for all the kind messages they have received from all over North Devon.”
