A Level Tambour Embroidery Masterclass at Norwich Castle

A unique extension and enhancement opportunity for A-level Art and Textiles students to work with experts, using world-class historic collections

Thursday 18 July, 9.30am  – 12.30pm or 1 – 4pm  (Max. 8 per session)

The art of using a tambour hook to create surface embellishment of fabric is an ancient one which gained popularity in the C19th in England with the embroidery of net and muslins for those Empire-line dresses we see in the Jane Austen films.  It is used today in haute couture to attach beads and sequins to fabric and to create glamorous embroidery quickly and neatly.

With this workshop we aim to give you an introduction to the basic stitch so that you can practice by yourself at a later stage.

The technique works on almost any textile and you might find yourself hooked! (Tambour hooks may be available to purchase on the day).

Includes a tour of the Castle’s Textiles Stores with the Costume & Textile Curator.

All materials supplied.

Cost: £5 per student/teacher
