School Readiness

School Readiness

This year's Let's Get Ready for School event will be held at the Baths Hall (Scunthorpe) on Saturday 20th May 2023 10-3pm.

The event is for children and families living in North Lincolnshire who are due to start school reception in September 2023. At the event families are able to speak with a range of professionals such as Health Visitors, Community Nursery Nurses, Community and Family Learning, Community Dental Service, and schools, who will all provide advice, support and guidance around starting school. In addition, there are children's activities including storytelling, arts and crafts and a goody bag for the first 140 children, which includes a copy of a book about starting school.

You will shortly receive some leaflets and we ask you to give to all children who are due to leave you to start reception in September 2023.

Transition Toolkit

Thank you for all the excellent partnership work between our PVIs and schools.

Through the close partnership working with your parents we know that many of you will have had discussions about which schools parents have applied to for their children starting school later this year.

Here is a link to the Transition Toolkit.

Discussions can be had now with feeder schools as to how many children may be moving up from your settings particularly for any children with SEND or with an EHCP in place.

Please consider how children in your setting will adjust to the classroom with a lower ratio, more structure and a different environment. A professional discussion with the schoolteacher through observing them in your setting could make all the difference.

Please ask the school if children with their key person are able to visit the indoor and outdoor classroom.

CPD SUMMER 23

Supporting Grandparents with Early Years

Are we seeing an increase in the number of grandparents supporting early years care for their grandchildren? How are grandparents being supported with early years child development and being welcomed into family hubs, toddler groups and early years provision? With the home learning environment known to have a significant impact on children's learning and development what can we do to support grandparents to give their grandchildren the best start in life?

This online event will start with a presentation from Childside who have been delivering courses to support grandparents. There will then be breakout rooms to discuss what the challenges are for supporting grandparents.

The webinar will take place on Wednesday 24 May 2023 - 2pm - 3.30pm and a place can be booked using this link. Please share with any families you think it may be relevant for.
