Message from Denise Hyde, chief executive and Penny Spring, director of Public Health

Team NL

Good afternoon,

On Monday it will have been four weeks since national measures were put in place to slow the spread of Covid-19 and protect you, your families and the wider community. Last night it was confirmed that these will remain in place for at least a further three weeks.

We know this will continue to impact on your daily life, both personally and in your work and we want to reassure you that your health and wellbeing is a top priority. We have information, advice and guidance on TOPdesk which we keep updating to support you and your wellbeing and we have added the newly launched TeamNL Live channel on Microsoft Teams.

We recognise that we are asking you to continually adapt to a developing situation and as a council team, as always, you immediately respond to what needs to be done - thank you for your incredible team work and your ongoing commitment to delivering the essential work of the council for the people of North Lincolnshire.

And on behalf of Team North Lincs, we would like to say a huge thank you to our colleagues who are working face-to-face with our most vulnerable adults and children and in the community delivering vital services keeping people and place safe and well and our environment clean.

Thank you for keeping your focus on our priorities, your flexibility and your resilience during these challenging times.

Please stay safe.

Best wishes,

Denise

Keeping safe and well

Looking after our wellbeing is really important whilst we follow the government’s guidance to keep us safe, well and protected.

The ‘5 ways to wellbeing’ is a really helpful way to boost our mental wellbeing. Whether you are taking your daily walk, run or cycle, keeping in touch with friends and relatives virtually or learning something new, these all contribute to improving our mood.

5 ways to wellbeing

Building small actions into your daily life can make you feel good, and feeling good is an important part of being healthy. There are 5 ways to wellbeing that are proven to make a real difference to you.

Connect

You can still connect virtually with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours virtually by using technology or just picking up the phone. Our people are being very creative in the ways they connect with others through online platforms so that they can stay in touch.

Be active

Ensure that you take your daily recommended walk, run or cycle. This will boost your mental wellbeing and activity levels. There are also great online and DVD exercising classes to keep your fitness and energy levels high. Find an activity that you can do regularly at home that suits your level of mobility and fitness.

Take notice

Take some time aside for yourself and take time enjoy being in the moment. Heightened awareness also enhances your self-understanding and allows you to make positive choices based on your own values and motivations.

Give

Do something nice for a friend or neighbour. Whilst you can’t visit them, you could phone them for a chat or leave some food or a gift on their doorstep.

Learn

The lock-down provides great opportunities to learn. Whether it’s reading a book, learning a new skill such as a language, or honing your cooking skills it will give you a sense of accomplishment which all adds to your wellbeing.

We can follow some very simple steps that will make a huge difference - specifically in relation to social distancing and good hand and respiratory hygiene:

  • Social distancing - stay two metres (6ft) or three steps apart from other people
  • Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds using soap and water
  • And, always have tissues to hand so if you sneeze or cough, you catch can catch it, bin it and kill it.

We must maintain this to protect ourselves and others.
